2012 Spelling Bee

Soon we are going to have the annual Spelling Bee, which I am excited about. It will be in the Community Center in Sylvester on February 9^th. The students that will be involved are in Standard 4 through Standard 6. For the Spelling Bee, there will be a first and second place winner and an alternate. Those three people will participate in the Regional Spelling Bee in August Pine Ridge on February 14^th.

When we do the Spelling Bee, some people get nervous. I prepared by studying with my sisters and by myself. I think that a student from Gallon Jug will win the regional competition and we will go to the National Spelling Bee. Good luck to all of the Gallon Jug spellers!

Fundraising for the School Trip

Our school is getting ready for the annual school field trip. We are fundraising for it and I will tell you some of the fundraisers we have had and plan to do this year. We have had bake sales, a raffle, Dress Down Days (students pay a dollar so they don’t have to wear their uniform), sold bead bracelets made by the kinders, and received donations from some generous visitors to the school. We are also going to sell Candy Grams for Valentine’s Day and hold a car wash in Gallon Jug. Everyone in the school is working to raise money for the trip.

In the past we have gone to Croc Land and the Belize Museum for our trip. It hasn’t been decided where we will go this year, but I would like to go to Cahal Pech. Our trip will probably be in May, which is a fun way to wrap up the school year.

Ronaldo's Easter Break

My Easter break was boring! I slept the most of the time, but the cool thing was that I got two puppies. Their names are Hunter and Guardian.

At school we had an Easter party and played Egg Toss. We also ate ceviche made from the vegetables in the school garden as well as pizza. During the Easter Egg Hunt, we couldn't find all of the hidden eggs, so we had to have the students that hid them help us.

Jasmin's Easter Break

My Easter break was a little bit fun because I played a lot with my cousins and siblings and sometimes with my father. Sometimes we played hide-and-seek, volleyball, tickles, and football. I also ate a lot of junk food such as candy and chips. We stayed in Sylvester during the break and spent some time at the river. On Easter Day we ate rice and beans as well as cheese dip.

Gary's Easter Break

I had fun on my Easter break because I swam in a lagoon with my family. We also had an Easter party at Chan Chich where we hunted eggs. During the break I got to play football with Victor, which I liked a lot.

Leonardo's Easter Break

My Easter Break was fun because two of my cousins came to visit from San Felipe. We played some games together. We played football five times. We also swang from an avacado tree by tying a rope in it. My favorite thing was when we played water balloons. This was fun to do in the middle of the day when it was really hot outside.

How long was your Easter vacation? What did you eat? We ate fish and Ramen noodles. For Easter, did you celebrate with your family? I hope you had a fun time too.

Suleima's Easter Break

I had fun this Easter break because I went to Lagoona Seca. I went fishing with my family and I caught many small catfish. My mom caught the most fish - she got 12 big ones!

My family also went to Orange Walk over the break. We went to pick up my sister, Irene. She is 15 years old and living with some of my cousins there. She has been there since December, so it is really nice to have her home now. Irene is visiting for 2 weeks and then she'll go back.

I hope all of you have been enjoying your days off too.

Alexis' Easter

For Easter break I got some ducks - 16 of them, in fact. I also got a little dog that is white with black patches. I went to swim in the river by Cedar Crossing. In the afternoons I went to the football field in Sylvester to play football with Ronaldo. I ate the candy I found during the school Easter Egg Hunt.

We did the school Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday, 14th April and it was very hard. The Standard 6 students hid the plastic eggs by Ms. Dixie's house. Ben also helped them hide the eggs. Gary found the big plastic egg with candy inside. When we got back from Easter break, Ronaldo found the last egg by the football goal.

We also painted hard-boiled eggs and some dyed them with food coloring. Then we played Egg Toss and Victor and Leonardo won! Some of the little kids ate the eggs that broke. My class had a party afterwards with Ms. Amanda (Ms. Kim's sister). We ate ceviche without shrimp in it, which was made from the vegetables in the school garden. The teachers put up a piniata and they had a problem with some kids trying to grab the candy while the person was still hitting it.

I really liked the Easter break and party.

This day has come and I feel that without your guidance and encouragement I won’t be able to continue because I feel lonely inside. You were there for me when I needed help. The Four Heroes who Saved the Golden Bird

One day there were four friends that decided to go on a trip alone. The four friends’ names were Annie, Jack, Wendy, and Ryan. They said, “Let’s pack and go to the Netherlands,” so they traveled there.

When they go there at night, they turned on their flashlights and saw a wicked witch. The four friends go scared. They wanted to shout. When morning came, the four friends woke up so terrified.

Then one morning they went for a walk. When they went to walk, they heard something pass by quickly. Then they saw a light shining towards them. Annie, Jack, Wendy, and Ryan went to see it: it was a golden good luck bird.

“Oh no,” said Annie, Jack, Wendy, and Ryan because they saw a monster stealing the golden bird. Annie and Ryan had a good idea. They would give the monster apples and bananas because the monster always sang about how much he liked apples and bananas. Once they gave him the food, the monster left the golden bird alone and ate his bananas and apples. The monster sang its song all the way home to his cave.

At last they could have a picnic and a campfire. Annie, Jack, Wendy, and Ryan were happy because the monster did not take the good luck golden bird. Then they went back home and told all of their family about their good adventure. They told everyone in Coracol that the four friends, Annie, Jack, Wendy, and Ryan, went on an adventure to the Netherlands. The four friends were so happy that they go to visit a place that they had never been to before.

When Rocks Began to Fall from the Sky

One day it began to get dark. The people began to get scared. All of them thought it was going to rain, but suddenly things began to fall. People saw black rocks falling from the sky like rain. They had to get in their houses so the rocks couldn’t hit them.

The river began to get full of rocks. Fish were all smashed because rocks had fallen on top of them. Animals in the forest began to die. Birds had to migrate from one place to another. The houses began to creak and groan like they were going to fall. Some people fainted because they were so scared.

When it was all over, the sky became blue again. Branches on the trees were all broken. People began to migrate too, like the birds. They migrated because they said if that happened again they did not want to get affected again.

My Broken Hand

I was excited one day because I liked to go to school. My mom woke me up very early. I got ready for school. The bus came and we went to school. After a few moments, we go there and I was so excited. I played football during recess. While I was playing, Charlie, a student, threw the ball and it hit my hand. I did not realize it at the time, but it broke my hand. My hand hurt.

Mr. Mike took me to my dad and he asked my uncle to take us to the hospital in Orange Walk. We got to Orange Walk and the man said that they could not examine me. My dad said that we had to come back the next day. I was very sad. The doctor gave me something to hold my hand so it did not hurt.

In the morning, we went to the doctor and she said she could see us. The gave me an x-ray. They saw that my hand was broken. They took me and then they laid me on a bed. The doctor said, “When I count to three, we will pull his hand,” and they began to pull my hand. Suddenly they fixed my hand and then they put on a cast. It was itchy. I was so sad with the cast on my hand.

It took one month for my hand to heal. Eventually the doctor said we could take it off. They cut it off. I was so happy! I could play football again. That was the saddest experience of my life.

Near-Drowning

On the 20th of July, 2009 it was a rainy day and the river was overflowing. I was scared because my house is near the river. I told my mom, “Mom, what if the water goes inside our house? Where are we going to go?”

My mom just changed the subject and said, “Okay, family, why don’t we go swimming.”

So we all agreed and we went to our rooms and put on our bathing suits. We all met near the river and went in. At first, I was very scared because I didn’t know how to swim. I wanted to try to swim, so I jumped into the water and tried my best. But guess what happened: suddenly I began to drown. When I was underwater I thought that someone was pulling me down, but it was nobody. My head went in and out of the water.

I yelled, “Help! Help! I’m drowning!” Nobody heard me. I was very scared. I thought it was the end of my life, so I looked towards the sky and said, “God, you know what to do with me.” He must have wanted me to continue my life because finally my dad saved me.

My dad told me, “Now did you learn your lesson?”

I told him yes and gave him a hug and a kiss on his cheek. I also told him, “Dad, you are my hero and will always be.”

Now I learned my lesson of not to swim in a flooded river. I also learned how to swim.

When I First Came to Gallon Jug

When we were in Cayo, my father got a new job at Gallon Jug so we had to move. When my mom and dad were packing up, my friend and I were playing for the last time. When we needed to go we started crying. Then when we reached Gallon Jug, we were amazed by such a clean place it was. We started unpacking our bags.

Then we went to meet Mr. Mike and Ms. Jill. A few days after,I went to the school and I knew Mr. Mike and Ms. Jill, so they introduced me to some girls and boys. Mr. Mike and Ms. Jill made me feel comfortable at the school. I was very shy. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. Everybody was very different from me. At school we did some games. Mr. Mike and Ms. Jill were so kind to me and my family.

At the end of the day my mom came to pick me up from school. Over the next two days I made two new friends. From then on I wasn’t shy anymore.

Ms. Jill’s Class

After Infant II, I entered the class of Ms. Jill. She was a fantastic teacher. In the class of Ms. Jill, I learned a lot of things. Ms. Jill was a woman who was about six feet tall. She had blonde hair with dark streaks. She was a good teacher and she always had a smile on her face.

The first day I entered her class I was very excited. She told us that a friend of hers said, “I know where Jill is sitting on the bus because of her ‘ssss’ sound.” For me, it was very funny.

I liked being in Ms. Jill’s class from the first day I entered it. In Ms. Jill’s class I was so happy. Sometimes she scolded us, but in a little while she was happy again. When a kid was doing something very bad she would take them to Mr. Mike. One time a student made her cry because he told her something very bad. After lunch she was very sad.

After Standard I, I passed to Standard II and I was still in her class. It was the same as the past year – very fun. To the Standard II students who passed to Standard III, she gave them bracelets and necklaces. I had fun playing bingo in her class. We played bingo every Thursday at the end of the day. When someone won, she gave them a pencil. She gave a pencil to first and second place and to third place she gave them a lollipop.

Then she went to the U.S. to the baby shower of her sister. She stayed there for about 2 months because she was pregnant with her son, Bryce. From that day on, she stopped teaching. After she left, Mildred taught us. Then she came back to Belize and didn’t teach anymore because she started a preschool.

The plane accident happened. She left us here and she went to heaven. I really miss her and Mr. Mike. They were the joy of the school.

Memories of my Life

It was my first day of school and I was excited about it. After a week of school, Friday came and I was thrilled because it was my first time doing P.E. with my classmates. I was happy changing and after we started exercising I was more excited. I always looked forward to Fridays until one time I exercised as usual and afterwards I played tag on the hill and fainted.

When I woke up, I saw white clouds and it felt like my head was spinning around. I didn’t know what it was, but the sickness I had was killing me. From the first time I fainted, everything was not normal for me. I always got to my house with my head hurting or not feeling well. The same thing happened over and over again. I didn’t know what was happening to me.

Three years later, I was in Standard I and almost done with the school year when I started vomiting. My head hurt and I started spitting saliva out of my mouth. At that moment Dona Telma came and saw me and started shouting. “Mr. Mike, Ms. Jill, Ms. Aleida! Come! Suleima is sick! I don’t know what she has.”

Mr. Mike and Ms. Aleida picked me up and took me in the jeep to Blue Creek. They took me to the clinic, but it was closed, so they took me to the Orange Walk hospital. They didn’t have the necessary items, so they took me to Belize City. They examined me and they found out I had a brain tumor that was killing me slowly. The doctor told Mr. Mike that they had to keep me in the hospital until the following day.

They called my mother and father to tell them I was in the hospital. When they reached the hospital I had many tubes and wires all over me.

After everything, they took me to my house. Days after, Ms. Aleida went to my house and told me that we had to go to the United States because they needed to operate on me for my sickness. That day came and my father and I had to go to the United States. The day before my family went to tell me farewell in the airport. We gave each other hugs and kisses. The airplane went into the sky. When I looked down I saw green things and blue color that was the ocean.

Hours later, the airplane landed in the airport in Virginia. That was my first adventure. The next one was in the hospital days after being in the hotel. They told us I had to be in the hospital until the day of the operation. They gave me injections in my arms and got me ready until the nurse came. She told me that on the 14th they were going to operate on me.

So one day they took me to a white place – the operating room. Then they put a white thing on my nose and it made me sleep. The operation lasted 4 ½ hours.

After that everything was better and until this day I’m here. So now I just feel like my head hurts a little bit. I’m scared, but I believe in God. So that’s why I’ll always remember Mr. Mike Casey, someone special to me.

In this part of the book Anne frank still continuous to tell her about her, being in love with peter. The people in the secret Annex are living in a peace of bread daily. One day they found Mr. Vandaan stealing the bread. Mrs. Frank got so annoyed that she ordered them to leave.
They continue life waiting when they will eat a real meal.

Still in hiding Anne realizes that she is in love with peter. Her love is so strong and can hardly keep it a secret.
She longs for dancing and she longs for peace among the members of the secret Annexe. She also longs for problems to be resolved with her mother and her.
The people in the secret anexe are waiting every second to be for all the people in Armsterdam to be invaded by the Germans and to be taken to Germany.
In al this years in hiding Anne had been longing for everythingbut today a little less for she thinks that peter is falling in love with her, for always looking at her. She always thought he loved margot but she now realizes it's not true

Hi!everyone I just read that Anne family just has completed on the Annex hiding place 1 year. So Anne had a hard time staying on the hiding placed because sometimes when the bell rings they need to stay quietly. Imagine hiding for a year without getting out of the house and not breathing the fresh air. Also imagine being criticized about your origin or your life but just think how you would feel about it? Girls/boys imagine that you are a young girl or a young boy that just had 13 years old who has been hiding for a year. In your opinion how you would feel? I talk about this because some people don’t care about others. Also Anne Describe the moments that she passes in the “secret Annex”. In the hiding place Anne passes hiding without enjoying the life.

So the dairy goes on and when Anne wrote that the Germans military people were fighting with the British people. While Anne was sleeping and all the other s they herd poof!! It was a bomb near the hiding place and rapidly they look carefully outside of the house and they wanted to know what was happening. Well the militaries were fighting with the guns bombs and military stuff. That time when Anne and her family were hiding it was the World War 2. Too bad for Anne family because if they were caught hiding they would taken to the concentration Camp and would be taken advantage. Probably they would be killed. Imagine being hidden from a military without going outside. Also imagine being on their moccasins.

One day her fathar told her that a new member was arriving. The man was a doctor and was going to share the room with her.

Anne is a 13 yaer girl. Right know in this part of the book they are starting to put as much cothing as possible for they were going into hiding. Their hiding place is located nun- other than her father's office.
The first thing that anne collects before going into hiding is her paintings and of course her diary.
We found out later that their hiding place was behind a cupboard which slide inward to enter and towards the outside to exit. They were going to stay in hiding as long as they had too to safe their lives. Every day people came close of discovering them.
