San Lazaro Football Game

By Victor

I am on the football team this year with 12 other players. Our coach’s name is Ajri. During practice we do many things such as making passes and playing goal to goal, which is when we make passes with our team and try to score on the opponent’s goal. I feel good about being on the football team because it is fun to play against other teams. In December, we went to San Lazaro to play a football game and we won. Gallon Jug scored four points and San Lazaro got 2 goals. On February 24th, San Lazaro came to Gallon Jug to play another game against us. We won with a score of 10 to 0. It was lots of fun.

Valentine’s Day

By Ronaldo

We celebrated Valentine’s Day here at the Casey Community School on Wednesday, February 15th because on February 14th we went to the Regional Spelling Bee. One of the ways we celebrated Valentine’s Day was by having everyone in the school pick someone’s name out of a basket and then they created a Valentine’s Day card for them. Each class then decorated a box for the cards and on the 15th we read them. Another way we celebrated was by breaking open a piƱata. All of the students rushed to grab as much candy as they can. It was a good day because it was very funny. That’s what we did on Valentine’s Day.

International Day

By Leonardo

I am going to talk about International Day. Each year every class celebrates a certain country. Each class researches a country and then they make costumes, food, posters, and flags. Some even share music and dances. We then have an evening event in the Sylvester Community Center so that everyone in the community can learn more about these countries.
Last year my class presented Chile. We made chimantos for all of us. Ms. Reina’s class studied Columbia. They cooked food and they dressed like Columbians. Ms. Vicky’s class focused on Jamaica. They also dressed like Jamaicans and made food and drinks.

This year we will celebrate International Day sometime before Spring Break. It will probably be in the end of March or beginning of April. The country that I would like to study is Argentina.

Spirit Week

By Suleima

From February 27th through March 2nd our school celebrated Spirit Week. During Spirit Week we dressed up each day in different costumes. Some examples are Pajama Day, Crazy Hair Day, Costume Day, Twin Day, and Character Day. The class with the most students participating gets a prize. The Infant 1&2 won an ice cream party. Some memories I have from past years are that my little brother got grass in his mouth by trying to get the candies.

Son and Sea Camp

By Jasmin

This year I can’t wait to go to San Pedro for the Son and Sea Camp. One day a group called Son and Sea came to Gallon Jug to visit us. They taught us about the Bible and about Jesus. The boss invited us to go to San Pedro to spend three days and 4 nights there, so we went. In San Pedro, they gave us a bunk and then we had to go eat very early. Then we bathed and went to the pool. We put chairs around it and prayed, sang, and watched a movie. When we watched the movie, they gave us a bowl of popcorn. When we were done watching the movie, the boys and girls played pranks on one another. We went to sleep at 12am and woke up at 7am.

In the morning, we had to sign up for different activities we wanted to do like crafts, snorkeling, diving, swimming, treasure hunt, etc. Then we went to the beach to play in the sand. My favorite thing to do was to go to the beach. I want to go again this year.

Candy Grams and Car Washes

By Alexis

Every year we have raise money for our school trip, so in February our class sold candy grams and had a car wash as fundraisers. On Saturday, February 11th we went to my teacher’s house to make the 158 candy grams that were ordered. Then on Valentine’s Day, we distributed the candy grams. Since each candy gram was $1, we managed to raise $158 for the school trip.

On Saturday, February 18th, my class and I did a car wash. It was held from 11:30am – 1:00pm next to the Gallon Jug office. It was very fun and we raised $160 for the trip. I had a very fun time fundraising with the other students in my class.

P.S.E. Preparation

By Gary

The Primary School Examination (P.S.E.) is a standardized test to see how much the Standard 6 students have learned. Here in school, we are preparing ourselves in school and after school. We are having different subject tests like science, English, social studies, and math. The first two tests will be science and English, which will be on March 26th. The math and social studies tests will be on May 7th. I feel very scared and nervous about taking the P.S.E.
